Home care in Houghton Regis
Visiting care and home care in Houghton Regis
Mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 as Houstone, Houghton Regis is a Bedfordshire town, near Luton. Bordered by the Chiltern Hills, the once small village became a ‘London overspill’ in the 1950s and 60s, causing it to develop massively. Some of the original village characteristics can be recognised in the names of local roads, such as ‘Tithe Farm’. Local industries that are no longer in production include straw plaiting, which in 1689 caused local workers to demonstrate against a bill requiring people to wear woollen hats, claiming it threatened their industry.
Helping Hands are long-established in the care industry, although we can’t claim a history as far back as the 17th century! We were, however, established in 1989 to deliver exceptional care for people in their own homes. Our visiting and live-in care services are fully regulated by the Care Quality Commission and the Care Inspectorate Wales, so you and your loved ones can have full confidence in our services.

Branch Care Manager
As the Branch Manager, my role is to lead the branch and team in Luton, Dunstable, Houghton Regis and Leighton Buzzard areas. My role here is to ensure that the care that we provide is to a high standard and build positive relationships with out customers and their families. I have always worked in care throughout my whole working career in various roles and making a difference to someone's life how ever small inspires me. I am married with two adult children and two cats. I enjoy going to the cinema, meals out, theatre and wandering around historic buildings. I have worked in care since leaving school. I started as a support worker working with individuals with learning disabilities. In 1990 I became a student nurse at Bedford Hospital but wasn't able to qualify due to family illness. I then worked for a home care agency as a support worker, supervisor, assistant manager and out of hours on call. After having my two daughters I started working for a retirement housing association as a scheme manager and then area manager. I stayed there for ten years until working for a company offering retirement housing villages as a registered manager at three of there villages in Milton Keynes and Bedford, whilst there I achieved my Level 5 qualification in Health and Social Care. I worked there for eight years until leaving to become service manager for two Nursing Homes in Hitchin.

24/7 live in care support
For the ultimate in individualised support, live-in care really does give you and your loved ones incredible peace of mind. Because you’re never alone at home you’ll always feel reassured that your companionship, personal care, medication, and every other aspect of your daily life are in hand. You may be living alone after the loss of a partner or living with complex needs and looking to move into your first home, but whatever your circumstances are, we’ll be with you every step of the way.
Why Helping Hands is better than a care agency in Houghton Regis
We aren’t and have never been a care agency. We’re a private home care company who takes great pride in the distinction that offers. A care agency will usually only offer a skeleton service – charging you to ‘match’ with a carer and then leaving you to take charge of everything else. With Helping Hands though we fully manage every aspect of your care experience, as well as employing your carer directly, rather than expecting them to be self-employed. This gives them more security in their work and makes them more motivated in their daily role.
Qualified carers providing a variety of care services in Houghton Regis
Our company was built on kindness, and our carers are the best representation of that. We only choose the most compassionate and empathetic people to join us because we know that our carers are the beating heart of Helping Hands, out in all weathers caring for people in their own homes and keeping them as independent as possible. We recruit, assess, and teach our people ourselves, feeling it’s far too important to entrust to an outside organisation. That’s how we can build our local teams and know that we’re always delivering the most exceptional, consistent standards of care.
